Find your Hydro-Gear model number

Every Hydro-Gear unit has a product label on the transaxle (on pumps, on the pump housing). Order by the full model number, not the series name: units that look alike can be different inside.

  1. Model number: letters and digits in four groups, e.g. ZD-DNBB-7MDC-24PX. The two-letter prefix is the series (ZA–ZD = EZT, ZH–ZM = ZT-2800/3100/3200, PG/PK/PR/PW = pumps). The largest units use a numeric number such as 1710-1066R.
  2. Left or right: zero-turns use a left and a right unit with different model numbers. Check which side you're replacing.
  3. Serial number and build date: also on the label. Keep them handy in case we need to confirm an updated model.

Label worn? Clean it first, because grease and grass often hide readable numbers. Still nothing? Send your mower's brand, model and serial number and a photo of the unit.

Which Hydro-Gear transaxle do I have?

Read the model number on the Hydro-Gear label, for example ZD-DNBB-7MDC-24PX. The first two letters give the series: ZA–ZD is an EZT, ZH–ZM is a ZT-2800, 3100 or 3200. Our part number guide walks through it.

Can I replace my ZT-2800 with a ZT-3100 or ZT-3400?

Hydro-Gear strongly discourages using any model the mower maker didn't originally specify. Axle size, axle ends, reduction and filter all differ between series. Order the exact model number on your current unit.

What oil does a Hydro-Gear transaxle use?

Most current serviceable Hydro-Gear transaxles use 20W-50 engine oil. ZT-2800 through ZT-3800 take the 52114 filter: first change at 75–100 hours, then every 400 hours (kit 72750). EZT units are sealed, with no routine oil change. Details in the oil and filter guide.

Is Hydro-Gear the same as Tuff Torq?

No. They're different manufacturers and their units aren't interchangeable. Here's how to tell which one you have.

What if my model number has been replaced by a newer one?
