Overview

Moderne Original is clean and minimal. A 3-inch steel door frame seems to float in front of the fireplace, and hidden hinges and handles finish the contemporary look.

The Design Specialties Moderne Original is made in the USA and custom built for zero-clearance (factory-built) fireplaces. Every fireplace glass door is made to order and cut to the exact size of your opening.

Features

  • 3" steel door frame with a floating look
  • Hidden hinges and handles
  • Inside or overlap fit
  • 1/4" tempered glass in clear, bronze, or grey
  • Optional mesh curtain or gate mesh doors
  • Made in the USA

Custom Made to Your Exact Opening

Choosing your size: add the opening's width and height together. For example, a 36" wide x 28" high opening is 64". Then pick the matching combined size range. If your combined size is larger than the largest range, contact us for a custom quote before ordering.

Finish: pick the finish type here. After you order, we'll help you choose the exact color in that family (the color charts are in the photos). Due to the hand-applied nature of Artisan Premier, Hand Crafted, and Metallic finishes, every piece will vary slightly.

Glass: 1/4" tempered safety glass in clear, bronze, grey, all the same price.

Mesh: mesh is optional. A mesh curtain or gate mesh doors let you use the fire with the glass open while still stopping sparks and rolling embers.

Factory-built fireplaces: before ordering, check that your fireplace manufacturer allows aftermarket doors on your model, and keep every vent and louver clear.

What Happens After You Order

Every door is built to order. After you check out, our team will contact you to confirm your exact opening width and height (to the nearest 1/16") and your finish color. Fabrication starts only once you approve those details, so the door fits right the first time.

Lead time: this model usually ships in 3 to 4 weeks after your details are confirmed. Hand Crafted finishes usually add time, with typical lead times of 4–6 weeks. Design Specialties doors generally ship in 2–3 to 6–8 weeks, depending on model, size, and finish, and we'll give you an estimated ship date when we confirm your order.

Shipping: free shipping to the contiguous United States and Washington, DC.

Final sale: custom made-to-order doors can't be canceled or returned once fabrication begins, so please measure carefully. We're happy to look over your numbers or photos of the opening before you order.

How to Measure Your Fireplace Opening

  1. Measure the width of the opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the smallest number.
  2. Measure the height on the left, center, and right. Use the smallest number.
  3. Measure to the nearest 1/16 inch. Your door is cut to these exact numbers.
  4. Check the face around the opening for flatness. Note any protruding brick or stone, a raised hearth or ash lip, damper handles, gas lines, or a key valve near the opening.
  5. For factory-built fireplaces, measure the metal firebox opening itself, and note the location of the vents and louvers above and below it.
  6. Add width and height together to find your size range, then order. We'll confirm the exact numbers with you before fabrication.

Warranty

Lifetime manufacturer warranty on the tempered glass, plus a limited manufacturer warranty on the frame against defects in materials and workmanship.

FAQ
